Group Medical Insurance

All the students and staffs are covered with group Medical Insurance through New India Assurance Co.Ltd. The students and Anna university permanent employees and their dependents can avail the cashless inpatient medical treatment in a number of listed Hospitals in case of any emergency. They can avail this facility throughout the country during their service/ study period. For this purpose a third party administrative card is provided for every member.

• Salient aspects of Student Medical Insurance

  • Eligible for Rs.50,000/- for medical treatment (Mediclaim policy) for every student.
  • Room, boarding, nurses expenses must be eligible.
  • I.C.U. Ambulance, other surgeon fees must be eligible.
  • Cashless treatment in networked hospitals.
  • Expenditure to be reimbursed in case of treatment in other hospitals.
  • Pre and Post hospitalisation for relevant illness.
  • Accident Policy Rs.50,000/- in the event of death.
  • Permanent Total Disability / Partial disability cover for student due to accident (Partial disability - Reimbursement based on the percentage of disability) - Rs.1.00 lakh.
  • Medical expenses due to any accident (floating policy) -
    • Rs.2.00 lakhs for 10 students (each)
    • Rs.1.00 lakh for 20 students (each) and
    • Rs.50,000/- for remaining students (each)
  • Death of Earning Parent / Guardian - Rs.1.00 lakh.
  • E-ID / ID issued to all the students
  • All students of University departments of CEG, ACT, MIT and SAP Campus are enrolled in this at Rs.137/- for the academic year 2020-21.

Health Education and Preventive Measures

Periodic lectures are given for the students and staff of MIT campus on first aid, health and hygiene. Mess and hostel workers are educated to follow clean habits. Isolation of cases of infectious and communicable diseases is also done. Various medical Camps are held for benefit of staffs and students frequently. MIT supports the emotional, psychological, educational, social and cultural development of all students through a wide range of activities including counseling, career guidance, training and educational services.

General Health Services

• Assessment of health concerns like blood pressure, pulse rate etc.
• Diagnosis, treatment and follow up for medical conditions
• OPD services including part time specialist OPD for eye, ENT, skin, ortho and diabetic needs
• In patient services for minor ailments.

Counselling Services

MIT supports the emotional, psychological, educational, social and cultural development of all students through a wide range of activities including counseling, career guidance, training and educational services. Counselor is available at the health centre to enable the students and staff to achieve good mental health and success in their personal, academic, and professional lives. The counselor provides free, goal-focused counseling including therapies like REIKI and assessment and medication and confidentiality is maintained.

Emergency Services

The health centre provides initial treatment for a broad spectrum of illnesses and injuries at emergency conditions. Health centre is equipped with an ambulance fitted with O2 cylinder and first aid boxes. 24 hours ambulance service is available to aid the patients for admission in nearby hospitals on emergency situations. Number of hospitals are available closer to MIT. To name a few-Tambaram Govt Hospital, Balaji Medical college & Hospital, Deepam Hospital, Parvathy Ortho Hospital etc. After first aid specific cases are sent to nearby Hospitals for further care.
